Wirral Met College is a College of further education offering courses from basic skills to degree and post-graduate qualifications. The college has been teaching generations of people since 1855 and today teaches 6,000 students across 4 main campuses.

Requirements

Wirral Met had been looking to complete apprenticeship sign ups digitally for some time but had not been able to find a system that would enable them to do this effectively. A key driver for going digital was the need to make their sign up process for apprentices more efficient allowing them to save time and money.

Solution

Following a meeting with iPEGS after a colleague recommendation iPEGS was implemented within the Employer Services team. Using the Web Portal, Wirral Met were able to create digital versions of their existing paper-based forms use whilst working away from their office with employers and apprentices.

Individuals using iPEGS found using the digital documents and iPEGS app much more efficient than the previous paper based documents. The assessors received apprentice documents more quickly and the admin team spent less time scanning and renaming documents.

Pre-iPEGS all employer documentation had duplicate copies which needed to be signed, now the employer has less documentation to complete during visits. Overall both apprentices and employers are more engaged in the ‘sign up & review’ process, much preferring to type their comments than write in limited spaces on paperwork.

A key advantage of using iPEGS is the speed in which college paperwork can be completed and delivered to relevant parties. Using the iPEGS system, all paperwork is emailed to employers and learners within two working days of sign up.

Trainers and assessors are now using iPEGS in different areas to complete progress reviews taking the number of users up to 17 across the college. There is further development in place to integrate iPEGS with Compass so the college can complete their enrolment forms using iPEGS.
